The Complete List of IB Courses and Classes

IB Preparation Courses (MYP & DP)

What are all the International Baccalaureate ( IB) courses? Here is a full list of all IB Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) groups.

IB Preparation Courses - Complete IB Courses

Every IB school is different, so your own school may not offer any of the IB courses below. However, these are all classes for which the IB has produced a curriculum and an examination.

There are a total of 57 classes (comprising HL and SL separately). I have grouped them into the categories that the IB describes as six subject classes.

Here's a table of contents you can use to jump to the different subject groups:

  • Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature
  • Group 2: Language Acquisition
  • Group 3: Individuals and Societies
  • Group 4: Sciences
  • Group 5: Mathematics
  • Group 6: The Arts

NRIs and International students can also book free demo session of IB preparation courses. All classes are live and interactive aong with the doubt removal session.

You must take courses from all six groups to earn your IB Diploma. Notice that you can study additional research, individuals and societies, or a language course instead of an arts course.

You will need to complete what is known as the heart, which includes an additional class called Theory of Information (TOK).

Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature

Language and literature are the first group of IB Diploma courses. According to the IB, these classes intend to "develop a student's lifelong interest in language and literature and a love of the richness of human speech."

Group 2: Language Acquisition

The main aim of this group of classes is to help students develop foreign language skills while learning about and appreciating a different culture.

Group 3: Individuals and Societies

The third category of IB Diploma courses encompasses a range of social science subjects, such as social sciences, psychology, and politics.

The purpose of this group is for students to develop a "critical appreciation of human experience and behaviour" and to learn more about cultural structures and the various types of environments in which people live.

Group 4: Sciences

In this category of courses, you can choose to study physical science or technical science. The purpose is for students to deepen their understanding of the scientific method.

Group 5: Mathematics

There are currently four choices for the math class, which are scheduled to have their last evaluation in November 2020:

The IB does not do a decent job of distinguishing between the four courses, but from what I can gather, Mathematical Studies SL is the lowest level of mathematics, then Mathematics SL, then Mathematics HL, and then Mathematics HL.
  • Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL
  • Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL
  • Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation SL
  • Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation HL

Group 6: The Arts

This final group of IB classes focuses on imagination and a range of creative endeavours, including visual arts (e.g. drawing and painting) and performing arts (e.g. theatre and dance). If you do not wish to take an arts class, you can replace this necessity by taking an additional class from groups 1 , 2 , 3 or 4.

All the best for your preparation. You can also check IB preparation courses. These courses are live and interactive, Helps NRIs and Indian students to enhance their preparation.
